Walk the Planet!
Flash: Walk Vermont on Labor Day weekend 2006 with Bill McKibben and others demanding legislation on carbon emissions, see here.
Walk
the Planet! is a musical call to
environmental action, with some urgency attached. The reality of
global interdependence is
now upon us, but will we recognize this? Will we change our priorities
in the fundamental ways that circumstances demand? What would this
mean, concretely, for our day to day lives? Can we make a positive
virtue of what might become necessary constraints on consumption?
Can we take the long view? This song is just one small baby step
toward creating the conditions that might shift beliefs and behavior
in a sustainable direction.
Walk the Planet! is is 4.5 megabyte, mp3 format original composition,
distribution strongly encouraged. It's intended to motivate your
support for the CFN and environmental groups that are working toward
sustainability, and if it does, write "Walk the Planet!" on
your check. Or organize a Planet Walk, Planet Party, or other planetary
activities with your neighbors to help figure out what exactly
we can do to keep the planet a place you want to be. Only you can
save the world.
Walk the Planet! is a Center for Naturalism environmental initiative.
Your participation, support, and suggestions for organizing and
action are welcome. See Avoiding
Collapse for some ideas on how
to generate the political will to take the greener path. Meanwhile,
get out of your car, or we won't get too far...

Walk the Planet!
You’re just the cutest little thing to ever
Walk the planet,
Come take that walk with me.
Now’s time to take a little look around
This lovely planet,
And see what we can see.
Be the world’s true lover
It’s the only one for us,
Steps are what you need to take
To make this world your own land.
It takes every different kind of creature
To make a planet,
What kind are you and me?
They got every bit as good a reason
To live on the planet,
Can we just let them be?
Someday you’ll discover
Only you can save the world,
If we take the greener path
This world will last beyond us.
You got to Walk the Planet!
Come on and walk the planet
Come take that walk with me.
Get out of your car, or we won’t get too far
You’ve got to walk this planet.
Be the world’s true lover
It’s the only one for us,
Steps are what you need to take
To make this world your own land.
How can very many more of us
Fit on this planet?
It’s not so clear to me.
Who will take a little baby step
To keep the planet
A place you want to be?
Someday you’ll discover
Only you can save the world,
If we take the greener path
This world will last beyond us.
Someday you will discover
Only you can save the world,
Steps are what you need to take
To make this world your own land.
You got to Walk the Planet!
Come on and walk the planet
You got to walk this planet.
Get out of your car, or we won’t get too far,
Come take that walk with me.
(vamp and out over chorus)
Walk the planet
Walk the planet
You got to walk this planet.
Get out of your car
Or we won't get too far...
